Throwing Smith a bone

(Not throwing him WITH a bone.) Right, everybody knows that I am not really a huge Graeme Smith fan. Here I am making myself clear, I never hated Captain Courageous, I just didn't like him that much. All the horrible things I have ever said about him, was meant to be taken lightheartedly. The reason I'd like to make myself clear is that recent activity at Amy S' blog has made me see the light. I am starting to defend the man. He isn't that bad. (I even took him off the 'boncam don't like you' list.) I noticed that he is a funny man, not only (funny looking) on the field, but off field as well.

Graeme Smith has won the SA Cricketer of the Year & the MTN Test Cricketer of the Year Award. Lets give the guy a break and respect him for what he has achieved.

I have noticed a change in him. He doesn't seem so arrogant and cocky anymore. (Most of the time. He is behaving in front of the press these days.) Remember how bad he was in Australia in 2005? The media scrutinised him, the crowed boo-ed the team. Smith was bickering with Ricky Ponting on the field. But all of a sudden there has been a turn-around. Smith has started to praise his opponents, accepting a loss (not making any excuses anymore) and saying straight forward when it is obvious, that the other team has outplayed them.

What really surprised me was the manner in which the Australian crowd treated us. It was completely different to the last time we were there...I made a lot of mistakes and bumped my head a few times along the way,” he said in a candid interview...I felt as if I had to prove myself as player, captain and person. I probably had the wrong attitude towards the public. I wanted to prove people wrong rather than plough the energy into my game. That took its toll.

Recently, Smith seeked advice from a life consultant, which has helped him change his perspective and attitude. I had to decide how I wanted to be remembered one day and am happy with myself now. In the past the perception was maybe that I was too passionate and was over-confident, but that should not be mistaken for arrogance...Thanks to our performances the past two years, the team deserves to believe that it can achieve anything. There is no longer fear and conservative thinking among the guys.

News on his elbow is that will be out for the next six weeks.

...I will definitely be watching my teammates in the one-day series...It’s amazing how sport brings our country together and it’s a huge privilege to be part of that.

He has grown up a lot since the 2005 trip out here. He was a right fuckwit and us Aussies let him know it! Like you Bon I don't hate the bloke, in fact he kinda grew on me as the summer went on. But if there is a chance to take the piss, we must!

Indeed, we will. I will continue my Botha for captain propaganda.

Have you been to Amy's site recently. The Graeme haters have taken over.

There are many mean people out there. I am glad that you, Boncam, has finally found some respect for Captain Fantastic.

Uhm, thanks Missy. It took me a while. But he was the one who changed his attitude. I think you will like my latest post. Its AB-galore

I still don't like him.

I've always liked him.

I like him but I hate the fact that he's gay.

Anonymous said...

Has his gaydom been officially announced?

Anonymous said...

Not official yet, Anon. I'm not sure that he is indeed gay. He had a hot brunette on him arm at the CSA awards. He could just be fooing us, though. (Oh, here I go again.)

Any pics of the hot brunette Boncam?

Was she a coloured girl or a 'white' brunette. He had a coloured girl at the Bangladesh tests watching him?

According to the Joburg rag, Smithy went solo to the awards.

I never knew about his girl in Bangladesh. Awesome. Cricket-Lover if only you said something sooner, it may have silenced all the gay rumours.

The hot brunette I'm talking about was white. Not sure if she really was with him, though. I watched the awards on SuperSport. If I had a photo I would defenitely have posted it to get rid of all the Gayeme haters.

In the CSA photos there was one photo taken of him and a dark haired woman but she may have just been a fan. Is this the woman you mean? The other pics where a cricketer was with a woman was clearly when they were a couple.

No that's not the girl I was talking about. She wasn't in any photos I only saw the 2 on TV. I honestly don't know if she really was his date. She could have easily been an unknown celeb. The awards were packed with them.

If the Jozi rag said he went solo, then I guess he did.

So I guess in most people's eyes he remains gay then Boncam.

Anonymous said...

Seems that way.

Is he officially been outed as gay Boncam? There seems to be a lot of talk about this on various forums. I think most have accepted he is so has he admitted it?

What a pity, I actually fancy him.

Sorry Anon, but nothing is official. He hasn't come out yet. It's just Smith haters who continue these rumours.

I do no know if he is gay, honestly I doubt he really is. He just happened to be at the wrong place in akward positions when photos were being taken. (That goes for a lot of cricketers)

Anything said by me is meant to be taken lightheartedly. I only take the piss out of him cause I am a heartless bastard.

I do not hate Smith I don't care if he is gay. That doesn't matter to me. What matters is that he used to be a great cricketer (*not talking about his personality*) and I hope for his sake that he gets well soon and that he can get back into form.

It's only a bung elbow he should recover and he only lost form in the IPL which is a domestic T20 comp. Does that really matter?

I thought that he was shite during the Aus tour to SA, the IPL and the T20 WC. (I am not a RR supporter, BTW) This was all after he broke his finger. He did say that he will be out for 6 weeks with his elbow. When I say get back into form I also mean *get back into shape.

Just been to wikipedia, KP is their featured article. Have you checked out the GS article there is even a 'PERSONALITY & Controversies' piece.

Smith didnt get much of a chance in the Aussie leg of the twin series. He made a good fifty in one innings of the first test, then wasn't dismissed in the second and succumbed to injury before being ruled out until the ODIs. He was ok there without setting the world on fire, did better than a lot of the Aussies. The team won.

I think AB is probably gay too but his religion means he can't come out and he wants a family. BTW Smith wants a family too so I don't know how that will happen. I've read about the controversies before. KP's an interesting character. I think there is a bad run-in with Vaughan and Bravo as well.
