JP Duminy Interview

Posted on/at 11:26 AM by The Cricket Corollary

How do you view the chance to playing in the Champions League?
It is a big tournament for me, especially considering that the third edition of IPL is going to be held in India. So I hope to build a sound platform for IPL by getting to know the sub-continent conditions through the Champions League.

How different is playing in the CL from playing for the Mumbai Indians?
It will be a new experience for me in terms of playing in India as we will be playing in front of a different sort of crowd. While playing for the Mumbai team I had a chance to interact with players from different parts of the world. But here I will be playing with the guys I have known for years. Whether it is for South Africa or Mumbai or for Cobras my aim is to help my team win.

You are a key player for Cobras. Does that put any pressure on you?
Not really. I am not worried about expectations that people have from me. Obviously, it will be big challenge for me to play and excel in a tournament like the CLT20, but that is something I am eagerly waiting for. Here I have to adapt quickly to the sub-continent conditions as they differ from what we get in South Africa.  I really feel confident about the tournament and our chances in the Champions League.

Have you assessed your first opponents, the Royal Challengers Bangalore?
Well, they definitely are a good side. That they were runners-up in the IPL shows their strength. They have some exceptional players in their ranks like Dravid and Kumble But Cobras are right up for the challenge.

Does the absence of Graeme Smith affect your chances?
It will be tough to replace a guy like Graeme. But I feel we have enough depth in our ranks to seriously challenge our opponents. I think we have a very good skipper in Andrew Puckett who has good experience of the intricacies of T20 format. We just need to focus on our strengths and a good start will go a long way in boosting our chances in the CL.

There is a lot of talk about T20 affecting the future of Tests and one-dayers. Your take?
I feel Test cricket is going to stay no matter what. We have seen huge crowds in the Australia vs South Africa series in both the countries and the Ashes too draw a lot of viewers. So there will be crowd for good and tight contests. It (T20) might affect the one-dayers, unless the authorities come up with some modifications to the existing format. I guess it will need a special effort to keep the one-dayers going.

Do you think playing in tournaments like CL will help South African domestic cricket?
Oh yes. It will be a good experience for many guys in the team, especially the young ones who will get a hang of different conditions. But the process will take some time to come into full effect.

Deccan letting Gibbs go

Posted on/at 11:13 AM by Anonymous

The Deccan Chargers announced that Herschelle Gibbs will not be in their squad for the Champions League. Is he not good enough? How embarrassing for Gibbs who said that he favors Deccan a week ago. Maybe they just didn't want to pay the $200, 000 compensation fee? The Nashua Cape Cobras on the other hand are delighted over the news.

The squad will be captain by Graeme Smith and will now include Herschelle Gibbs and JP Duminy.

The final squad of 15 will be announced on September 7.

Squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Derek Brand, Ryan Canning, Henry Davids, Jean-Paul Duminy, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Herschelle Gibbs, Claude Henderson, Rory Kleinveldt, Charl Langeveldt, Richard Levi, Karl Nieuwoudt, Justin Ontong, Vernon Philander, Francois Plaatjies, Andrew Puttick, Gurshwin Rabie, Lenert van Wyk, Stiaan van Zyl, Monde Zondeki.

My CSA Awards

Posted on/at 8:03 AM by Anonymous

I have been holding this back from everyone. First I wanted to see who would actually win. Now I would like to share my thoughts on who I (me being biased) would have given the awards to....

SA Cricketer of the Year
And the Cricket Corollary Award goes to.... Dale Steyn
Why Dale, you ask. It's quite simple. For being an outstanding bowler who has been more consistent than any of the other nominees. (And of course because bolwers always get the short end of the stick.)

ODI Cricketer of the Year
And The Cricket Corollary Award goes to.... Dale Steyn
(The guy is made out of awesomeness.)

Pro20 Cricketer of the Year
And The Cricket Corollary Award goes to.... JP Duminy
I agree with this one. JP deserves it.

International Newcomer of the Year
And The Cricket Corollary Award goes to... Roel....Wayn.... I am so glad that I wasn't a judge for this one. How can you pick between Roelof van der Merwe and the equally talented Wayne Parnell. Well, lets just give it to Roelof van der Merwe. He contributed by being an all-rounder. (Wayne might have beaten him if only they gave him a chance to bat.)

...and the winners are...

With great pleasure I give you JP Duminy. My favourite Protea Player. He must be the most loveable player in the squad. He always looks so cool and calm.

He is an outstanding all-rounder. He can bat, bowl and field. What more do you need? JP got the highest bid of all the South African players at the IPL. The Mumbai Indians picked him up for $950 000. What will he do with all that money? Buy a house. That will be a big house? I doubt it will be a castle. He is planning on buying his house in Cape Town. Not the cheapest place to live.

You might have picked up in the T20 WC batting intro he says that his favourite player is Justin Ontong. Well, that was a little joke. It's actually Brian Lara.

Work those eyes.

Staying in shape can be fun.

Best work-out ever.

Thanks a lot Roelof van der Merwe. You arse!

Van the Man gloated after getting his SA & Titan team mate, AB de Villiers, out for 28. But it's not only his fault. AB fell for it. You are so gullible. Roelof you are still quite the entertainer. No hard feelings. The Daredevils will still be going through to the semi-finals. I would not mind seeing the Challengers there as well.

I am starting to think that Jacques Kallis is a bully. When the Royal Challengers were playing against the Mumbai Indians he was sledging JP Duminy and during this game he was also sledging AB. Not cool! I reckon there will be some bad blood in the SA camp after the IPL. Fucking asswipe!

You little shit!

Duminy and his "Foofie"

I recently found this article. This was funny:

"I have a favourite blanket that I have kept with me since I was two years old. It is something special, something I feel very comfortable with. I need to feel it between my fingers when I'm in bed back home." - Aah, how sweet!

Unfortunately it looks like the Mumbai Indians wont make the IPL semi finals. This is very sad!

Graeme Smith poking Morne

Smithy can be such an ass! Shame man. Poor Morne. How embarrassing was that? He seems like such a bully! And then there is this photo where Graeme is trying to force himself upon JP Duminy.
