I don't know if you guys know this but Johan Botha is a crazy person! Yes, Johan cycled for 24 hours, round and round and round St Georges Park in Port Elizabeth all in the name of charity!
“When I do not play cricket, I cycle and I thought this would be an ideal way to raise funds for a worthy cause,” said Johan.
This is the second year that Botha cycled around St Georges Park, his home cricket ground in Port Elizabeth. Botha cycled 211 times around the circumference of St Georges Park, which is a stretch of approximately 2,16 kilometres. He bettered the number of laps he completed last year by ten, covering a distance of 445 kilometres compared to last year 201 kilometres.
During Botha’s two hour sleep break, cyclists from General Motors South Africa, one of the event sponsors, continued cycling on his behalf, recording a total number 259 laps with a distance of 559 kilometres. The funds raised this year will be equally split among three charities - All Hands on Dec, a charity that works to support childhood cancer; the Red Cross Society, a non profit organisation that focuses on healthcare, disaster management and humanitarian values and the Community Chest in Port Elizabeth.

Herschelle Gibbs, already 35 years old, has no intention of retiring. This week the BBC reported that Gibbs would like to renew his deal with Glamorgan in 2010.-Could this be collateral? After what happened to Morne Morkel, Hersch could be securing his future. Good thinking!
Earlier it was revealed that the Deccan Chargers decided to leave him out of the Champions League after he decided he'd rather play for the IPL Champions rather than his domestic team, the Cape Cobras.
Gibbs told the BBC he had had preliminary discussions with Glamorgan director of cricket Matthew Maynard about his future.
“I’ve spoken to Matthew and they are very keen for me to come back and I’m keen too...I’ll definitely come here as long as I possibly can if I come back next year.”said Gibbs.

Yep, it hit the tabloids this morning. Graeme Smith has been spotted in Cape Town with 25-year-old teacher Brigitte Sarembock, whose aunt, Margaret Gardiner, was Miss Universe in 1978.
In March he told reporters that he had moved on from his break-up with model Minki van der Westhuizen. He's been happy single and had not time for a girlfriend. “What’s the point of dating a girl and then waiting eight weeks until the next one? I am on the go and travelling the world most of the year,” he reportedly said.-No, you wait 5 yrs.
But it seems Sarembock, a special-needs teacher at Tafelberg High School in Sea Point, Cape Town, has found a way into his heart.Friends of the couple, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the pair were holidaying on the Garden Route this weekend. -Better get rid of your 'friends'
When called on her cellphone on Sunday, she immediately passed it over to Smith. -Oh, busted!
“I don’t really want to comment about this. I try to keep my personal life quiet, I don’t ever talk about that...Sorry to be rude, but there is nothing to comment on,” he said.
Smith has been spotted in recent weeks at Headquarters Restaurant in Cape Town or the city’s Bat or Jade Lounge nightclub, partying with team-mates Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher and AB de Villiers. -Wish we could get some pics of Jakes dancing.
This just goes to show that getting a life coach and getting into shape can turn your life around. Biff got a girl and is now the #1 captain in cricket.
Ha ha! Fooled ya! This is a pic from way, way back then. Before he became Captain Courageous.
Apparently, we got it all wrong. Earlier it was announced that Robert Petersen got chosen over Morne Morkel for the Champions Trophy. It was all a lie! A source informed us that there are some enraged Proteas players out there. They want to get rid of the head of cricket selectors, Mike Procter. -Off with his head!
Procter is to be blamed for removing Morne after the selection panel had earlier agreed on his inclusion.Morkel has been replaced by Makhaya Ntini for the series, not Petersen as previously announced. Ntini appeared to be on his way out of the ODI side in 2008 and it was thought he would have to make way for someone else in the build-up to the 2011 World Cup. Procter admitted that the group had been altered, but said there was “nothing sinister” about the decision. -Ja, right!
The saddest part is that the decision will cost Morkel at least R350 000 after he turned down two good offers to play county cricket at the insistence of Cricket South Africa.
Procter said that Morkel “would still be part of the Proteas’ long-term plans”. -Why don't I believe you?
Smithy is back! He is back in top shape and has started practising again this week after undergoing surgery to his elbow in June.
"Just look how skinny I am!"
"I started hitting tennis balls the first time today. It was quite an exciting day"
Oh, no! Is that a double chin?
Tsotsobe is back in the squad! There's also some dreadful news fora large group of fangirls. There is only one other change in the 15-player squad which completed the home MTN ODI series against Australia with Robin Peterson being picked over Morne Morkel.
"Langeveldt is not fit enough yet to be considered after his shoulder surgery and Morne Morkel is the unlucky one to miss out," Procter said. Graeme Smith (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt) Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors, vice-capt) Hashim Amla (Nashua Dolphins) Mark Boucher (Chevrolet Warriors) AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans) JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras) Herschelle Gibbs (Nashua Cape Cobras) Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors) Albie Morkel (Nashua Titans) Makhaya Ntini (Chevrolet Warriors) Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors) Robin Peterson (Nashua Cape Cobras) Dale Steyn (Nashua Titans) Lonwabo Tsotsobe (Chevrolet Warriors) Roelof van der Merwe (Nashua Titans)
The Deccan Chargers announced that Herschelle Gibbs will not be in their squad for the Champions League. Is he not good enough? How embarrassing for Gibbs who said that he favors Deccan a week ago. Maybe they just didn't want to pay the $200, 000 compensation fee? The Nashua Cape Cobras on the other hand are delighted over the news.
The squad will be captain by Graeme Smith and will now include Herschelle Gibbs and JP Duminy.
The final squad of 15 will be announced on September 7.
Squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Derek Brand, Ryan Canning, Henry Davids, Jean-Paul Duminy, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Herschelle Gibbs, Claude Henderson, Rory Kleinveldt, Charl Langeveldt, Richard Levi, Karl Nieuwoudt, Justin Ontong, Vernon Philander, Francois Plaatjies, Andrew Puttick, Gurshwin Rabie, Lenert van Wyk, Stiaan van Zyl, Monde Zondeki.
Yet again, AB de Villiers has stolen a fans' choice award. The fans showed their love for AB when they chose him as the YOU Magazine's favourite sportsman of 2009.
“This is my second award this season determined by the fans and it means a lot. We play for them and they drive interest in the game. It is a great combination. I look forward to the fans coming out to support the Proteas in the ICC Champions Trophy."
A little gossip: The man has been house-sitting for Mark Boucher over the weekend. He had to go all the way to Cape Town to look after Bouch's house, who went to visit his family in East London. What a good friend. But to be honest, AB had to be in Cape Town for a photoshoot. Watch out for the next Men's Health issue, ladies! The next day he was off to Somerset to take part in a coaching clinic for Francois Pienaar's "Make A Difference" charity.
Firstly a HUGE thanks to my firiend, Brandon for making me his new co-writer. This is officially my first post.
Jonty Rhodes is favouring South Africa for the upcoming Champions trophy. Now who would have guessed that?(sarcasm) Believing that SA's strength comes from their consistency over the last 18 months. He is also saying that they should keep an eye on Australia and India.
The prize money has been increased to a whopping $2 million.Yep, thats US$! "I was so excited by the way the Standard Bank South African limited-overs team played in the ICC World Twenty20 in the UK. They are a really well-balanced unit and they are setting standards for the other teams to chase butAustralia are written off far too easily, they will obviously be strong contenders, they have a good record in the competition and they know how to win. India are also very good, they've learnt how to travel and win and they have destructive bowlers and hitters in their line-up, home ground advantage is meaning less and less because all teams travel so much now and they've learnt how to win away from home in different conditions. The support of the crowd does make a difference if things go a bit flat and they can lift you, but South Africa won't be relying on that. They'll be relying on planning and getting all the processes involved in winning in place." -Jonty Rhodes
I dont know if I agree with Mr Rhodes, surely Pakistan should get favoured above Australia, right?
Here's the high's and the low's about the site's future.....
So I have been thinking about maybe closing this site and opening a new one, with a different name and I will also want to change my screen name. I am getting tired of Boncam. I would like to bring in a new affiliate. I've noticed that there are a lot of fangirls who check out this site... Helllloooo ladies! Anyways, I want to get a co-writer onboard. I already aproached her. She is witty and we share common interests. Like and dislike the same players and she is South African as well, which makes this perfect.
Dale Steyn has tested positive for too much morphine. The urine sample was taken during the IPL while Steyn suffered from migraines and a broken thumb.
Proteas doctor and member of Cricket South Africa's medical committee, Dr Mohammad Moosajee is sure that Dale should get off. "Dale presumably took too much Myprodol after struggling badly with migraines over the past few months and he also broke his left thumb during the IPL"
Myprodol and codeine (the substance contained in the painkiller) are not listed as banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Codeine is turned into morphine by the body. "The Royal Challengers medical team were informed of the painkillers and we have already sent a detailed report to the IPL in which we explained the reasons for the use of it...We expect to get feedback within the next few days and are confident that there will be no action taken against Dale."
Geez Dale! The worst part is that he might get suspended or get a hefty fine. But I doubt it. The doctors knew about it but the bastards never said a word when he got tested. They should have known what the outcome would be. Alright, so he took some painkillers for a broken thumb at least it's not steroids, right? It wasnt even actual morphine. Act naive Dale. Say you didn't know codeine turns into morphine. Blame Moosajee!
Herschelle Gibbs has picked the Deccan Chargers over his domestic team, the Cape Cobras. Looks like Biff & JP will be the only lonely Cobras. Not really, other key players include Langeveldt, Ontong, Zondeki & Henderson.
But there is a bright side. The Cape Cobras will be compensated. "There is a provision in the tournament participation agreement wherein a team has to be compensated $200,000 if a player doesn't represent the home side in the Champions League," Andre Odendaal, the Cape Cobras CEO, said.
The Diamond Eagles will be the other team representing South Africa, curiously Dillon du Preez plays for them as well as Bangalore. Will he make a move as well? Other Saffas who will be playing in the league are AB for The Delhi and Roelof, Boucher & Kallis for Bangalore.
In other news...CSA has cleared Wayne Parnell to play the semi & final games for Kent.
Parnell started off 2/8 with his first 2 overs against Durham. Helping Kent defend a low total during the quater-final. The two finalists qualify as England’s representatives in the Champions’ League tournament to be played in India in October.
"This is great news for the club," said Graham Ford, Kent's director of cricket. "We are delighted to be able to bring Wayne back because he made such a big impact in our quarter-final win over Durham. I would like to thank Mickey Arthur, and the South Africa board, for allowing him to return. I'm sure that he will play a key role at finals day."
